Beauty Bit: 5 Ways to Use Coconut Oil in Your Beauty Routine

Hey everyone,

Awhile back, I talked about different hair oils to use that would smooth and add shine to your locks. Today, I wanted to expand on one of them that I love in particular – coconut oil! Coconut oil is an amazing beauty multi-tasker because it is lightweight but incredibly moisturizing.  It’s also one of the few oils that can be fully absorbed into the hair shaft, instead of just sitting on the surface. Below are 5 different ways to incorporate coconut oil into your beauty routine:

1.) Hair mask: You won’t believe how shiny and smooth your hair will feel after this! Just grab a chunk of coconut oil and warm it between your hands.  Smooth it through your dry hair, starting from the bottom and concentrating on the ends.  Once you’ve distributed it throughout your hair, wrap your hair on top of your head and wait 30 minutes (or you can even leave it on overnight).  Rinse it out in the shower and follow with your normal shampoo and conditioner – I promise you’ll feel (and see) the difference!  (For extra moisture, put on a shower cap and step into your shower for the last 10 minutes – the steam and heat will open up your hair follicles and allow the coconut oil to penetrate even further!)

2.) Body moisturizer: To give your skin a silky sheen, swap your lotion in for coconut oil right after you step out of the shower.  Be careful though – a little goes a long way and nobody wants oil marks on their sheets! The best part? Your skin will smell like cookies 🙂

3.) Makeup remover: Coconut oil is one of the gentlest ways to remove makeup.  Apply some to your eye area, and wipe off with a warm, damp towel.  You’ll be amazed at how fast it works!  The best part is that any leftover oil will hydrate the gentle skin around your eyes and even decrease fine lines.

4.) Body scrub:  Who needs to buy body scrub when you can make your own? Combine some sugar (brown or white) with coconut oil in a small tub and exfoliate away! Coconut oil also has anti-fungal properties, so it makes a great foot scrub as well.

5.) Shaving cream: Coconut oil makes an amazing shaving cream substitute – it gives a smooth base for your razor and any residue just leaves you with shiny, supermodel legs! It’s a great option for those of you who might be allergic or sensitive to all the chemicals in ordinary shave creams.

Have you ever used coconut oil? What are some other natural oils you use in your beauty routine? Tell me in the comments!

Coconut oil has been a staple in my beauty routine for a few months now, and I use it for EVERYTHING! It’s especially useful in combatting KP (keritosis pilaris) on my arms because it’s so hydrating! It seems a little pricey at first, but a big tub goes a long way. I haven’t tried it as a hair mask yet though – thanks for the tips! <3 – Mo

Awhile back my hair was severely damaged from putting in a weave fire my wedding. When the weave came out two months later my hair was breaking and very damaged. I started using coconut oil on my ends and natural shea butter as a sealant. I used jojoba oil with essential oils peppermint and rosemary oils as a scalp massage twice weekly. What a difference!!! I gained back my length as well as shiny healthy looking hair!!! I use natural shea butter as a face moisturizer and I find my blemishes and breaks have decreased by 97%
